The paper discusses the production and treatment of wastewater biosolids (sewage sludge). The use of biosolids in agriculture has been extensively researched and it is controlled by regulations. The framework regulations in the EU and USA are compared and the approach to their development contrasted. These regulations give traceability and their application has ensured that no adverse effects have been observed. The agronomic value of biosolids is reviewed and finally the question of how to manage perception and future developments are discussed.
