NITROGEN SECTION
The past, present and future of the Polish nitrogen fertiliser industry is briefly presented. The history of this industry can be traced back to 1915 when a nitrogen fertiliser and compound factory was built in Chorzów. This industry developed very quickly after World War II and at present five big nitrogen (N) and compound fertiliser works are operating in the country. The combined production capacity of all factories is about 1.6 million tonnes N and includes practically the whole range of nitrogen fertilisers. Four of these factories are stock companies of the State Treasury, while one is fully privatised. In recent years outstanding progress has been made in the fields of technological development and environmental protection, based mainly on national research and development knowledge.

PHOSPHORUS SECTION
The history of the Polish phosphorus fertiliser industry and the review of methods of phosphorus containing fertilisers production processes applied nowadays by the domestic fertiliser plants comparing to the world achievements in this area are presented. The recent changes of the processes of fertilisers production are discussed and the quality of fertilisers obtained is assessed. Present world tendencies in the phosphorus and multi-component fertilisers industry are presented.
