Computerised Maintenance Management Systems can provide an organisation with vital information necessary to improve the efficiency of the engineering service.

The paper highlights a user’s view from selection, through implementation, to continued development.

An important part of the selection procedure was the need to match existing systems and fit in with corporate requirements.

Once selected the system was implemented in a controlled way with emphasis on communicating progress to all potential users.

There were conscious decisions taken to implement the system in a way which would enable it to be on line and giving a pay-back in a far shorter time than had been normal for a system of this type.

This first phase has been successfully completed and development continues with the availability to link now with other systems, such as stores management.
